AUTOBIOGRAPHY
I was born in Istanbul, one of the fabulous cities in the world in 1974. I was the smallest kid in my family, and I have a colorful childhood with the combination of different cultures in one city. Surrounded by history and landed between Asia and Europe sophisticated my art.
While I was 6 years old my dad took me to the Turkish Aviation Museum. I was so excited to be in that place, to be covered with all the army staff. My dad wanted me to choose a model kit from the museum store and I chose P40 World War II Plane, 1:72 Scale model. I was impatient to open the box and make it as soon as possible. I was in an amazing mode while I was putting all the pieces together, obsessing over the smallest details, struggling with the colors. It took days to finish and the result was so satisfactory. Whenever I think about this time of my life, I always feel so lucky to be able to find my lifetime interest. I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. Since then I never stopped making models and making art. This is not just my job; this is my life and my story.
During my school years my parents were so disappointed and worried about my success. I wasn’t good at Math or Science, but I was marvelous on Art and History. I always needed to express myself in an artistic way. I was drawing, painting, making models all the time. Then I started to get ready for the Fine Art College. I was accepted to Eskisehir Anadolu University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Animation department. In the light of fine arts, I improved myself in the unique creative art world. I attended several international films festivals with my short animation called `Mozart Quartet` such as Cannes Film Festival (France), Neisse Film Festival (Germany), Istanbul International Short Film Festival (Turkey), Eskisehir Film Days (Turkey) and Ankara International Film Festival. (Turkey)
I completed my Fine Arts education in 1999 and started my professional career as an Illustrator for Children’s books. After a year I moved forward to Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, Documentary Department as an Art Director. I had opportunity to gain artistic perspective which has a connection with television audience.
In 2002, I participated in a big miniature park project called `Miniaturk` as a Creative Director. With this project, we built historical buildings of the ancient civilizations which placed in Turkey’s geography, with the range of 1: 25 scale models. In this open-air museum, we exhibit valuable historical artifacts starting with the Hellenistic period. The park has Persian, Armenian, Hittite, Ion, Roman, Byzantium, Ephesian, Ottoman, Baroque and Neoclassic art examples with famous palaces, bridges, temples, monuments, mosques and fountains. I built 40 models with my team for Miniaturk in Istanbul, 70 models for Minicity in Antalya, also 2 models (Westerkerk Cathedral and Circus Theatre) for Madurodam in Amsterdam. I managed my responsibility with working hard for this project, not only the creations for the miniature parks but specializing the models in an artistic quality as well. I experienced and learned many techniques, different types of painting styles and scale knowledge.
Independently, I carried out different type of techniques to create my own style, my own artistic diorama models. I am influenced by richness of the history such as vintage-retro period, World War I and especially World War II as well as Gothic, Romanesque, Arnova art and architectural trends. I composed and continued to do my works in my own studio since 2005. Besides I am working at a frame and art company to be able to earn my family’s living in the United States.
